That apart, a nicely crafted story, and an enjoyable read.

I could have happily read a whole lot more about sea-quilts and their world. Really believable aliens are difficult, but here they are beautifully realised and it is done with enough science to convince you of their probablity and the knowledge that the author's scientific background is as sound as it can be.

That said I believe this could have been so much more than what you get. It has a happy feel to it, but there was no real conflict and no depth to the tension a true first contact should bring. If you want a book that makes you feel good with an awesome description of an alien lifeform then this is for you, if however you want a narrative with depth and tension when learni I love Science Fiction and this one was on one of my favourite themes in that genre the first contact with an alien species.

If you want a book that makes you feel good with an awesome description of an alien lifeform then this is for you, if however you want a narrative with depth and tension when learning to understand another's viewpoint don't read this one - you won't get any of that here! Loved it! It's a happy, feel-good novella with big scary aliens who also manage to be quite nice, and a heroine who likes dabbling in rock-pools.
